The world's hundreds of thousands of volunteers recently met to celebrate the 24th International Coastal Clean Up. September 19, 2009 marked the commemoration of oceans' and seas best! Millions of people all over the world hitting their local beach resorts, lakes, rivers and other waterways for the 24th annual International Coastal Cleanup - the largest volunteer effort of its kind.
UM initiated the 24th International Coastal Clean-Up in collaboration with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources and Barangay Matina Aplaya in Davao City. Participants spend half day duration in removing trash and debris from coastlines, keeping track of every piece of trash they find and contained it in sacks. The participants noted that the problem of marine debris are getting serious. Stakeholders from the public, industry, and government officials must work together to address the problem of marine debris. The Cleanup gives everyone a chance to work in their backyards and be a part of this special movement to protect our ocean. Trash doesn't fall from the sky, it falls from our hands, and what falls from human hands can be prevented." The bottom module stirs under the educational group.
